CHEWING
GUM REMOVAL
With the increasing use of cobblestone and concrete areas in the centres
of towns and cities, the cleansing and removal of chewing gum from
these surfaces has become a real problem for city managers. Although
high pressure water blasters remove the chewing gum, they also damage
the surface of the paver and remove sand from between them. This results
in an untidy area as well as a sticky residue of chewing gum ready
to adhere back on to the surface. Following a period of research and
development, Waipuna has designed special treatment heads to carry
out this work.
A
pre-determined volume of hot water is applied to heat the chewing
gum which is then crystallised. A low pressure jet of water washes
away this crystallised material causing no damage to the surface being
treated. The paved area can then also be cleaned down using the heat
of the water to remove any dirt and grime, again, with no damage to
the paved area.
