HEALTH AND SAFETY

One of the driving forces behind the development of the Waipuna System has been the requirement for communities to comply with the health and safety legislation relating to the workplace.

Herbicides have clearly been identified as a significant hazard to applicators, members of the public, and the environment.

The design and training involved in implementing a Waipuna vegetation control program offers, for the first time, a safe, economic alternative for local authorities and employees.

Before being commissioned, all machines are checked and certified. All machines carry the CE marque for Europe.

A number of safety features are also built in to the machines:

Computerised flow connection/disconnection switch to control the hot solution leaving the lance.
Computerised boiler protection device to prevent overheating.
No exposed moving parts.
Does not store hot foam or water (for chewing gum system), other than that from boiler to nozzle.

As well as safety features, operator training covers many personal safety procedures. At least one operator must have passed the compulsory Operators Training Course to comply with the Licence Agreement. This two day course involves both practical and classroom work. Full details of the course are outlined in the comprehensive Operations Manual and Training Course notes.
